Honda reshapes its portfolio: 'Honda will allocate approximately 5 trillion yen in the area of electrification and software technologies'

Honda Motor Co., Ltd, held a briefing on April 12 to announce its plan to reshape its business portfolio.

Representing Honda at the briefing were Director, President and Representative Executive Officer Toshihiro Mibe; Director, Executive Vice President and Representative Executive Officer Kohei Takeuchi; and Senior Managing Executive Officer Shinji Aoyama, per an Acura press release. The trio announced a company shift from business in non-recurring hardware (product) sales to recurring business.

"Over the next 10 years, Honda will allocate approximately 5 trillion yen in the area of electrification and software technologies to further accelerate its electrification, including both R&D expenses and separate investments," the release says. " Honda's overall R&D expenses budgeted for this period will be approximately 8 trillion yen."

Honda plans to launch 30 EV models around the world by 2030, with production volume exceeding 2 million units every year, according to the release.

"Honda will build a demonstration line for the production of all-solid-state batteries with an investment of approximately 43 billion yen and further accelerate the research with a goal to start demonstration production in Spring 2024," the release says.
