The San Diego County Toyota Dealers Association donated to the San Diego lifeguards to supply them with lifesaving automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).

The association donated seven AEDs, for a total of $13,000 of equipment, to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s Lifeguard Division.

“We hope that this donation recognizing San Diego Project Heart Beat’s 20th anniversary encourages others to support their mission to empower our community’s use of early defibrillation in crisis situations,” Ivan Mendelson, president of the Toyota dealers association, told the Times of San Diego.

The donation was made to celebrate 20 years of the San Diego Project Heart Beat program, a nationally recognized program that helps educate and manage AEDs.

“San Diego Project Heart Beat has helped our lifeguards build confidence and awareness around the use of AEDs to create the greatest possible survivability rates among sudden cardiac arrest victims,” Lifeguard Division Chief James Gartland told the Times of San Diego.

Over 9,500 AEDs have been provided to the public by the San Diego Project Heart Beat program.
