Ford Motor Company warns dealerships against interfering with F-150 Lightning sales due to increasing demand for the vehicle.

The automaker is attempting to prevent undesirable customer experiences when buying the F-150 Lightning EV pickup.

“It has come to our attention that a limited number of dealerships are interacting with customers in a manner that is negatively impacting customer satisfaction and damaging to the Ford Motor Company brand and Dealer Body reputation,” Ford Vice President of Sales Andrew Frick said in a letter to dealers, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Ford is warning dealerships not to markup F-150 Lightnings or ask for additional deposits or presale payments, MotorTrend reported. Accordingly, a provision stating that the dealer "shall avoid in every way any 'bait,' deceptive, misleading, confusing or illegal advertising or business practices" is also included in their franchise dealer agreement.

Under the agreement, dealers are expected to operate in such a way that will not harm Ford’s reputation.

The electric F-150 sold so many reserved units that Ford had to double production before test drives were even able to take place.
