Michigan startup company hopes that a 752-mile battery charge will 'eliminate range anxiety'

One thing holding people back from buying EVs is the number of miles that can currently be driven on a single battery charge.

A Michigan startup company partnered with Tesla to test a prototype battery that can allow electric vehicles to drive much further than ever before on just one charge.

Our Next Energy (ONE), Inc., focuses on making safer and more sustainable batteries and is proud to call its prototype battery its "proof of concept."

"We want to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by eliminating range anxiety, which holds back most consumers today,” Mujeeb Ijaz, founder and CEO of ONE, told Car and Driver.

ONE retrofitted a Tesla vehicle the size of a Model S with its prototype battery and had it undergo a test drive across Michigan. The modified Tesla Model S achieved a 752-mile drive in a single charge, InsideEVs reported.

"We are now focused on evolving this proof-of-concept battery into a new product called Gemini, which will enable long-distance trips on a single charge, while improving cost and safety using sustainable materials,” Ijaz said, according to InsideEVs.

The battery fits in the same amount of space as previous batteries while providing twice the energy capacity.
