Owners of 2021-22 Ford F-150 trucks will soon be receiving a recall notice from the company after Ford filed with federal regulators, notifying them that the driveshaft may fracture and prevent wheels from turning properly, raising the vehicle’s crash risk.

Roughly 184,700 recalls will be mailed to 2021 Ford F-150 pickup owners due a concern affected by underbody insulators coming loose and possibly contacting the driveshaft, according to Car and Driver. `

The Detroit Free Press reported that the company alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Dec. 16 that thermal and acoustic insulators on the underbody of the F-150s "may loosen and contact with the aluminum driveshaft.”

Ford will initiate the recall near the end of January and examine and restore any damaged vehicles free of charge.

“The problem affects 4x4 SuperCrew models with the 145-inch wheelbase and the optional sound insulation package, and Ford estimates only 10% of the recalled trucks will have the defect,” Car and Driver reported.
