BMW, a German multinational luxury car manufacturer, is promoting the use of electric vehicles in its aim to help the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and raise the quality of life.

BMW eDrive Zone technology encourages drivers to shift completely to electric vehicles and is equipping more of their electric cars with eDrive Zone technology.

"More than 75% of all trips in an eDrive Zone are completed in electric driving mode already today," according to Green Car Congress. "An additional 35% switch to electric driving mode using the eZone function."

eDrive Zone technology gives drivers bonus points for each kilometer driving a fully electric car through a low-emissions zone, and these points can be redeemed for charging credit, according to CarBuzz.

BMW introduced eDrive Zone technology in 20 new cities, for a total of 138 European cities, Green Car Congress reported.

The 20 latest cities are: Aberdeen (Scotland), Bregenz (Austria), Brescia (Italy), Bristol (England), Cambridge (England), Cardiff (Wales), Copenhagen (Denmark), Cork (Ireland), Coventry (England), Florence (Italy), Klagenfurt (Austria), Lille (France), Matosinhos (Portugal), Naples (Italy), Oeiras (Portugal), Oxford (England), Sheffield (England), St. Pölten (Austria), Toulouse (France) and Verona (Italy). BMW hopes to expand the list in the future.
