Consumer Reports has recently released its annual reliability report, revealing that Japanese brands are safely in the lead.

Lexus, Mazda and Toyota were named the most reliable brands in Consumer Reports’ annual reliability ranking.

“Asian automakers are still leading reliability by a wide margin, with an overall reliability average of 62 for the region,” Consumer Reports said. “European nameplates are in second place, but trailing 18 points at 44. Although domestic brands score last, with an average of 42 across all vehicles, U.S.-based automakers had some individual standout models.”

The reliability ranking is calculated using a 100-point scale, with most vehicles falling between 41 and 60 points.

According to Consumer Reports, the top ten manufacturers are: Lexus (76), Mazda (75), Toyota (71), Infiniti (69), Buick (66), Honda (66), Subaru (66), Acura (64), Nissan (63) and Mini (60). The least reliable manufacturers are: Volkswagen (31), Genesis (30), Jeep (26), Tesla (25) and Lincoln (18).

In order for a brand to be ranked, there must be enough survey data for two or more models, Consumer Reports noted.
