Just ahead of the Los Angeles auto show where the Subaru Solterra was supposed to make its North American debut, it instead made a global debut, Autoweek reported.

According to Subaru's website, “The most technologically advanced Subaru we’ve ever made is here. Built on our first-ever all-electric architecture -- the e-Subaru Global Platform -- the 2023 Subaru Solterra, named by combining the Latin words for 'sun' and 'earth,' is the first AWD (All Wheel Drive) electric vehicle to feature the legendary standard capability of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.”

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is Subaru’s first electric car and will be designed and produced in partnership with Toyota. It is a battery-electric crossover, which could have a major impact on the direction Subaru is taking in the future.

The Solterra will share many similarities with the Toyota bZ4X, including many exterior features and the entire midsection.

The range and performance metrics have yet to be released, but experts anticipate they will be similar to the Toyota counterpart, according to Autoweek.
