A Berks County, Pennsylvania, dealership donated a total of 560 items to Safe Berks with the goal of helping them to keep children warm this winter, according to Reading Eagle.
Safe Berks is a nonprofit organization that aims to help those seeking to escape domestic violence and sexual assault circumstances. The individuals who arrive at Safe Berks often only have the clothes on their backs, so they are in great need of warm winter clothing.
“Many survivors who seek shelter at Safe Berks arrive with only the clothes they are wearing,” Beth Garrigan, CEO of Safe Berks, told Reading Eagle. “Fleeing from a violent home is a very traumatic experience. When children arrive here, we want to try to help meet all their needs, including their need to stay warm.”
Performance Toyota in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, held a winter clothing driver and donated 100 hats, 81 sets of mittens, 317 pairs of socks and 62 scarves to Safe Berks. Garrigan mentioned how grateful they are that Performance Toyota has made a generous donation for the fifth year in a row.
“It’s important we provide the children with the comfort they need and deserve," Amanda Houck, internet director at Performance Toyota, told Reading Eagle. "Having the opportunity to coordinate this event each year for the children is truly an honor.”
