For the electric vehicle (EV) adoption process to go smoothly, there are a lot of factors that need to be considered, one of which is the easy and reliable access to the charging network.

But the newly proposed EV tax credits could, in many ways, be unfair to foreign automakers, according to CarBuzz.

"Don't Honda and Acura customers who want to purchase an electric vehicle deserve the same credit as customers buying one from a Detroit automaker?" Honda said in a statement, according to CarBuzz.

Current proposed EV tax credits only apply to American automakers such as Ford, General Motors and Chrysler Stellantis.

Honda is aiming to make 100% of its vehicle lineup electric by 2040, and a significant number of those vehicles will be produced in U.S. plants, but Honda buyers still would not qualify for the EV tax credit in its current form.

Honda wrote an open letter called "A Message to Consumers: Fight for Equal EV Tax Incentives." In this letter, available to view on Honda's website, the automaker says, “Unfortunately, a new proposal in Congress would provide an additional $4,500 credit only for consumers who buy EVs made by three legacy Detroit automakers."

Honda is encouraging its customers to contact their Congressional representatives by phone and urge them to oppose the changes being considered to the EV tax credit.
