Mercedes-Benz has revealed plans for its first electric SUV, unveiling the Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQS at the 2021 Munich Auto Show.

“Many of our Mercedes-Maybach customers are digitally connected to a high degree and place the highest demands on our digital solutions,” Britta Seeger, member of the board of management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, stated in a CarBuzz report. “They also expect the brand of their choice to stand up for sustainable values and take responsibility for the environment.”

Seeger added that the opulent electric SUV achieves these points and “embodies sophisticated luxury in a more progressive way.”

The Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQS has an all-electric powertrain that does not only “makes consistently sustainable mobility possible, but also enables a new level of calm and relaxation for passengers,” CarBuzz reported.

Mercedes noted that the shift in core values of their market, younger buyers, has caused a shift in their idea of luxury.

The Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQS joins the wave of the company’s EQ vehicles, the EQS Sedan and AMS EQS, as the third electric vehicle released. The two-tone (Obsidian Black Metallic and Zircon Red Metallic) electric vehicle concept is likely to have its production version in 2022.

Passengers will be welcomed by a grandiose interior with high-gloss chrome air vents and metal trim pieces, according to CarBuzz.
