Toyota is now providing an eco-friendly car-sharing program for Posterity Scholar House (PSH) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) and Toyota Financial Services (TFS) in particular drive this program through their partnership with Indianapolis-based real-estate development firm Black and White Investments (BWI).

“We are pleased not only to help provide access to transportation, but to contribute in an eco-friendly way,” TFS Strategic Innovation National Manager Stacey Miller said, according to Toyota Newsroom. “These plug-in hybrid vehicles will enable Posterity Scholar House residents to easily travel anywhere within the Fort Wayne city limits and return home with plenty of charge remaining.”

The carshare will include four Prius Prime plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and will be managed by Toyota’s Strategic Innovation Lab.

Toyota announced that residents of Posterity Scholar House can reserve a Toyota plug-in online using Toyota’s personal carshare mobile app, SI Share. Toyota is working with PSH, BWI and project collaborator Energy Systems Network (ESN) to install electric charging stations for the vehicles, each powered by the property’s 287-kilowatt solar array.

PSH, which opened in May, is a sustainable, net-zero housing complex of 44 apartments, which was built to improve people's quality of life while reducing the cost of living for low- to middle-income individuals and families. It's first of its kind in the state, according to Toyota Newsroom.
