A Genesee County, New York, dealership donated $2,500 to the local sheriff's K-9 program as two service dogs recover from illness and injury.

Ken Barrett Chevrolet Cadillac in Batavia presented the check to Sheriff William Sheron, Jr., and Undersheriff Bradley Mazur of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office for two K-9 dogs needing veterinarian services.

“Instead of doing some advertising and some other things, we diverted those funds,” Ken Barrett of Ken Barrett Chevrolet Cadillac told The Daily News. “We’re going to be eating light lunches,” he joked.

Barrett heard about the dogs' situation and then stepped up to offer a donation to help the sheriff’s office pay for the K-9 program service dogs' medical bills.

Genesee County’s two K-9 program service dogs -- Frankie, a Belgian Malinois, and Rayzor, a German Shepherd -- are recovering from an illness and injury respectively, The Daily News reported. Frankie was hospitalized for a week because of an illness. Rayzor had a leg injury, similar to an ACL injury in humans, which required surgery.

Sheron said the dealership’s donation “couldn’t have come at a better time.” Barrett said that his team was delighted to make the donation and shared that Frankie’s handler is the grandson of one of their sales staff who relayed the dogs’ situation to him.
