American Honda Vice President Jennifer Thomas was named a Rising Star in the U.S. automotive industry by Automotive News.

Thomas played a critical role in the 2019 negotiations on an emissions deal with the state of California. Despite being new to her job at that time, she was confident enough to jump right in to guide Honda's leadership on the merits of the California deal for the automaker.

“It was the right thing for Honda to do,” Thomas told Automotive News. “It was the right thing for the environment, and it was the right thing for our customers.”

Currently, Thomas is leading advocacy efforts to urge the Biden administration to adopt a national standards program for vehicle greenhouse gases and fuel-economy standards that are aligned with the state of California, Automotive News reported.

As vice president of corporate affairs, she is responsible for government and industry relations, corporate communications, corporate social responsibility, and the diversity and inclusion divisions. And with the current COVID-19 pandemic, Thomas has been dedicated to supporting Honda with various community outreach.

The Automotive News Rising Star award is given to automakers and supplier leaders under the age of 45 in the U.S. who have the talent and drive to become auto leaders in the future, according to a Honda Corporate News.
