Toyota unveils Collision Assistance: ‘Minutes following an accident can be critical’

Toyota introduced collision assistance technology embedded in Toyota and Lexus owner apps offering instructions to help drivers navigate the repair process after a collision.

The collision assistance allows a convenient way for drivers to process insurance claims after they have confirmed that they are safe and without injury.

“Safety for our customers is paramount. The minutes following an accident can be critical – drivers are often confused and uncertain about what to do,” Steve Basra, Toyota Motor North America connected technologies group vice president, said in a Toyota press release. “By incorporating collision assistance into our owner app, we can offer help when it is needed. With collision assistance, we’re offering additional safety and peace of mind.”

According to the press release, collision assistance is an extension of the Safety Connect suite that Toyota and Lexus owners have with an active subscription or those that are within the trial period of select 2018 model year or newer Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

The collision assistance app first ensures the driver is safe. Subsequently, it will guide the driver through the process of collecting accident documentation, connecting them to insurers and locating a collision repair facility.

To create the feature, Toyota worked with CCC Intelligent Solutions Inc. (CCC), which is a leading SaaS platform for the P&C insurance economy, according to the press release. The app can be is available for iPhone or Android smartphones.
