iSeeCars listed the Mercedes Benz G-Class as the fastest-selling new car in May. Mazda MX-5 Miata ranked as the fastest-selling used vehicle in May, a notch higher from its April spot.

Vehicle inventory is projected to remain tight for the rest of 2021, which affects car prices.

“The microchip shortage continues to impact new- and used-car sales, with new-car inventory decreasing by 15.7% and used-car inventory decreasing by 2.1% in May over April, intensifying the already high demand for used cars and driving up prices,” iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer told KXAN. “For new cars, both higher-priced full-size SUVs and alternative-fuel vehicles continue to be in high demand, striking an interesting dichotomy between practical and not-so-practical consumers.”

The previous four-month fastest new vehicle, the Chevrolet Corvette, dropped to the second spot in May.

The Boston-based car search-engine company analyzed over 1.3 million new- and used-car sales from May 2021, KXAN reported. iSeeCars.com assessed model years 2016 to 2020 for used cars. It excluded heavy-duty vehicles with models no longer in production prior to the 2021 model year and low-volume models from further analysis, according to KXAN.

iSeeCars.com to date has saved car buyers more than $292,233,707, according to its website.
