Sheehy Automotive will become a part of the newest unofficial auto mall in the Washington, D.C., area with a new 52,000-square-foot building, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Last October, Sheehy bought 7.23 acres on Loisdale Road in Springfield, Virginia, for $4.35 million. The new facility will encompass 37,000 square feet above ground for a showroom, administrative offices, reception, service and parts, plus 15,500 square feet of cellar space.

The Sheehy Automotive property will also include a two-level parking deck, space between dealerships and paved trails for new turn lanes entering the dealership.
"Competing dealerships like to be clustered together to reach as many potential customers as possible, experts say. Plus, jurisdictions often zone auto sales out of all but a handful of locations. And then there's the convenience factor: Loisdale Road runs parallel to Interstate 95 and is visible and easily accessible from the highway," Michael Neibauer wrote in the Washington Business Journal.
The new Sheehy Automotive location will be placed north of new dealership clusters that include Safford Hyundai, Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and Priority Toyota.
"Though not a formal auto mall, it's beginning to look very much like one," Neibauer said.
The acreage was originally envisioned as a park or low-rise office complex, causing the Fairfax project to be rezoned and a new comprehensive plan amendment developed for the area. The board of supervisors initiated the process of a comprehensive plan amendment review late last year.
According to LinkedIn, Sheehy Ford was opened in 1966 by Vincent Sheehy III in Marlow Heights, Maryland, and by 1975 had become the largest Ford dealership in the country. Sheehy Automotive added several franchises in the 1990s and has continued to grow "to represent many quality brands throughout the mid-Atlantic."
