Online automotive retailer CarGurus is offering its dealerships early access to its latest digital retail offering: CarGurus Convert.

Dealerships will be able to engage with car shoppers who are more likely to purchase from them, utilizing their time more efficiently.

“The past year has shown that consumers want to complete more of the car shopping process online, and CarGurus Convert will not only drive more sales for dealerships but will also help them meet this rising digital retail demand,” CarGurus Chief Product Officer Tom Caputo told Intrado GlobeNewswire. “CarGurus Convert has been designed to be easy to use for consumers, which in turn will create an effective, high-conversion sales channel for dealerships, while maintaining their essential finance and insurance profits.”

Dealerships will be able to allow vehicle buyers to conduct most of their transactions online using CarGurus Convert. A CarGurus study showed that 60% of consumers are open to purchasing their vehicle online, and 41% actually prefer to do so.

Car buyers who use CarGurus Convert can easily initiate their purchase by clicking ‘Start My Purchase’ and proceed with the transaction. Finalizing the purchase will be done by visiting the dealership with a prescheduled appointment. All details completed by the car shopper through CarGurus Convert will be received by the dealership.

The increase in online buying has put traditional car dealerships on notice. U.S. dealerships saw record profits last year, despite a national recession and reduced workforce due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost 30% of U.S. new car sales were completed online in 2020, ABC News reported.
