Following a decision by the AutoNation board of directors to separate the chairman and CEO roles, the board elected Rick L. Burdick to serve as the new board chairman of the Fort Lauderdale-based dealership group.

Burdick assumed the position of independent chairman of the board last month, succeeding Mike Jackson. Burdick has served as one of the company’s directors since May 1991, and took the position of lead independent director in December 2018.

Additionally, he is a member of AutoNation's Compensation and Corporate Governance & Nominating Committees. Burdick has formerly served as lead independent director of CBIZ, Inc., and a partner with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P.

"The Board is comprised of experienced and well-respected leaders who provide valuable and strategic guidance. I am excited about AutoNation's future," Burdick said.

Current Jackson will continue in his role and remain on the board.

"AutoNation is well positioned for the future," Jackson said in an AutoNation press release. "We remain focused and committed to delivering a peerless customer experience."
