Because the year 2020 disrupted many industries, including the automotive industry, Cars.com has predicted some top trends for 2021 that both auto businesses and car shoppers will want to follow.

Two of those trends, according to Cars.com, are that a new wave of vehicle shoppers will emerge, which, in turn, will make at-home deliveries and trading in vehicles from the customer’s driveway preferences for contactless delivery. More consumers are looking at online purchasing, at least for some parts of the transaction.

“In the new virtual-first environment, digital platforms have significantly increased in importance for small businesses across the country, dealerships included, as the need persists to virtually connect with at-home shoppers,” Cars.com CEO Alex Vetter said. “The new year will bring fast and persistent adaptation in our industry as consumers continue to rely on cars as an extension of their homes, and look for frictionless digital experiences from their local dealerships.”

Affordability and electric-vehicle advancement also are trends the auto industry should be looking out for this year, according to Cars.com.

“America’s car dealers are well-positioned to meet these expectations head-on as technology takes center stage, and we welcome this new era of digital car buying and selling,” Vetter said.
