Dwayne Hawkins, founder and CEO of Crown Automotive Group, died on Dec. 24 from an undisclosed illness.

The Crown Automotive Group, which has locations through Florida, Ohio, and Tennessee, remembered Hawkins as an outstanding leader. The company mourns his passing.

“As many honors and awards that Dwayne received, I am sure he would tell you that the thing he was most proud of was his Crown team,” Crown Automotive President and COO Jim Myers said in the release. “Dwayne told me recently that he believed our team to be amongst the very best in the automotive industry, anywhere.”

His induction into the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame in 2020 was delayed due to the pandemic and rescheduled to 2021, the company said in a release.

Kevin Hawkins, his son, will succeed as principal Dealer and chairman of the Crown Automotive Group.

“What a great dad, friend and mentor he was to me. His loss to the Crown family is immense," Hawkins said in the release. "Dwayne Hawkins was an inspirational and visionary leader, a dedicated and passionate giver, and a truly remarkable human being. He will be sorely missed."
