Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW) will be awarding $11 million new grants to continue its support to fight pediatric cancer and COVID-19.

The grants, which include $200,000 each for the 10 Young Investigators Grant recipients and $300,000 each for 15 Hyundai Scholars Hope Grants recipients, will be presented through virtual handshake ceremonies to be held during the National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, according to PR Newswire.

The Young Investigator Grant and Hyundai Scholar Hope Grants supports principal investigators whose research projects may have a substantial impact on enhancing the understanding of the biology of pediatric cancer and researchers involved with translational research, respectively.

Additionally, HHOW is allocating $4.4 million in grants to various children's hospitals and institutions across the country to help in the fight against the coronavirus, which poses a threat to children with cancer. Twenty-three COVID-19 drive-thru testing centers are being supported by HHOW, which has currently resulted in more than 615,000 COVID-19 tests.

"The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is unprecedented and has reminded us of the need to come together to help each other. While much has changed in the way treatments and related care are delivered to children fighting cancer during these times, one constant remains our resolve to find a cure for the disease," Scott Fink, board chair of Hyundai Hope On Wheels and president and CEO of Hyundai of New Port Richey and Wesley Chapel, said. "This year, we are awarding grants to support both COVID-19 testing and funding additional research grants."
