Led by CEO and President Liza Borches, the crew at Carter Myers Automotive (CMA) recently marked the company’s 96th anniversary by charting the path for what it’ll take to flourish and prosper over the next century.

“I spent the day asking employees to share stories with me about other employees,” Borches told Mega Dealer News. “I wanted everyone focused on the impact we’re making and how we continue to make sure we matter as a dealership for the next 96 years.”

In keeping with that theme, CMA officials also marked the occasion by highlighting 96 employees, past and present, who have made an impact across the family-owned, Virginia-based company’s 15 dealerships and 17 franchises.

“This is an industry where we can see many changes coming, but we’re focused on evolving what we do to the point we’re still making our presence felt 96 years from now,” Borches said. “We’re looking forward to being here to meet and exceed the needs of the people, whatever that means.”

Borches said the key to it all is remaining true to who the company has always been.

“I’ve been here 17 years now and the biggest thing I’ve learned about what’s made us exist for so long is our mission of not just being about selling but moving lives forward,” she said. “I think as long as we focus on that mission it helps us realize what we do every day really matters. We’re here to help our customers, associates and community get where they want to be in life.”

Borches’ concedes all the years haven’t been storybook, which has prepared the company for some of the trials and tribulations it now faces in the age of COVID-19.

“We’ve survived through depressions, world wars and now this pandemic,” she said. “We’ll pull together like we always do, keep pushing forward and keep serving our community.”
