Carter Myers Automotive President and CEO Liza Borches is intent on removing the last roadblock she sees standing in the way of many Charlottesville, Virginia families moving forward through the Driving Lives Forward program.

“We are committed to helping economically disadvantaged families in our neighborhood be able to do better for themselves,” Carter Myers Automotive (CMA) executive told the Mega Dealer News. “We’re totally focused on helping families that are close to being self-sufficient in getting on track and staying on track where having reliable and affordable transportation would make the difference.”

Earlier this month, CMA officially put the first person nominated to it through its Drives Lives Forward program behind the wheel.

CMA partnered with the United Way of Greater Charlottesville in the new transportation initiative, which seeks to provide affordable loan financing to economically challenged families or individuals that are nominated for the program by other nonprofit organizations, CMA said.

“They’re unable to maintain or become employed because of the lack of transportation,” Borches told Mega Dealer News. “These individuals have everything but reliable transportation to take the next step and we’re proud to be able to help.”

She has committed CMA to sourcing the vehicles for the program through a 36-month loan program.

Borches said the program is months and months in the making and leaders have taken every precaution to make sure it runs smoothly.

“We brainstormed on this idea for two years, considering everything from those with poor credit to bad driving records and other drawbacks,” she said. “Through many brainstorming sessions, Driving Lives Forward was created.”

Borches said she feels like CMA has been here before.

“It’s just another step in our mission to move lives forward,” she said. “That’s our mission and it applies to our workers, our consumers and the people of our community.”
