New Subaru vehicles to include first-ever integrated HMI digital cockpit system from Denso and BlackBerry

Denso Corp. and BlackBerry Limited recently announced that the all-new 2020 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback will be the first vehicles equipped with an integrated human machine interface (HMI) digital cockpit system with BlackBerry QNX technology. Called Denso Harmony Core, the technology will be available when the cars go on sale this fall.

"Software is the driving force in next-generation automotive design," John Wall, senior vice president and general manager of BlackBerry QNX, said in a press release. "As cars evolve to becoming more automated and data-driven, the transition will demand functional, secure and trusted in-vehicle software."

“Denso is creating new value for the global smart mobility society,” Atsushi Hayashida, director of the cockpit systems business unit of Denso, said in the release. "This is being achieved by working jointly with other companies and research institutes, and we are pleased to launch the first integrated HMI platforms in the world with BlackBerry and Subaru.

Tatsuya Okuno, vice president and chief general manager of engineering for Subaru Corp., expressed the automaker's enthusiasm for the new software.

“This is a world-first in new automotive digital experience that seamlessly combines the cluster, head unit, infotainment system and entertainment screens with the class-leading safety Subaru is known for," Okuno said in the press release.
