BMW North America sold 311,014 units for 2018, which is 1.7 percent higher compared to its 2017 sales of 305,685. Its December 2018 sales of 34,357 increased 0.3 percent compared to its total sales of 34,253 for the same month in 2017.
“We have seen the momentum building throughout 2018 and BMW in the U.S. starts the New Year with 14 straight months of sales increases and our best sales month ever for our U.S. built BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle,” BMW of North America President and CEO Bernhard Kuhnt said. “Our optimism for 2019 is based on solid facts including the continued strong sales of the 5 Series, with the 5 Series PHEV as the best-selling luxury plug-in hybrid vehicle in the U.S. Now, the all-new X5 is making a strong impact in its first two months in the market and we are looking forward to the arrival of the all-new X7, and the highly anticipated launch of the all-new 3 Series in the months ahead.”
The December 2018 sales volume is attributable to its lineup of Sports Activity Vehicles, which is 63 percent of the sales.
BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales
December 2018 sales for electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles ended at 2,774 units sold, which is 2.0 percent higher than the 2,720 in December 2017. BMW Group combined electrified vehicles sales for 2018 electrified vehicles went beyond 25,000 for the first time and increased 17.9 percent compared with the previous year.
MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA sales decreased by 39.3 percent from its 4,611 sold units in December 2017, as this year’s December figures are reported at 2,797. MINI USA’s 2018 total sales of 43,684 is a 7.3 percent decrease from its 2017 sales of 47,105. MINI Countryman sport-activity vehicle reports an increase of 18.2 percent in its 2018 total sales compared with last year’s 14,864 sales.
BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
BMW Certified Pre-Owned sold 9,858 vehicles in December 2018, which is 14.9 percent lower than its sales in December 2017. BMW Pre-Owned also had a slight decrease in its figure with 21,388 vehicles sold, a 0.7 percent drop from December 2017.
MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles
In December 2018 MINI Certified Pre-Owned sold 988 vehicles, representing 16.8 percent growth from December 2017. Total MINI Pre-Owned 2018 sales grew by 4.9 percent compared with 2017.
With a decrease of 6.5 percent from December 2017, MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,461 vehicles in December 2018.
