The Volkswagen Jetta has been in existence since the 1970’s, and has also been one of the most popular European cars in the U.S.
Now on its eighth generation, the 2019 Jetta has gone a long way from what it was four decades ago.
The Jetta is now on the MQB platform, with a longer wheelbase but shorter front overhang. Unlike its predecessor, its body looks less box-like. Instead, it has a sleek-sloping rear roofline, an elegance similar to a coupe, and its curved front makes the Jetta look luxurious. Plus, chrome and LED lighting are added to complete the 2019 Jetta’s premium feel.
The 2019 Jetta’s interior is another story. This latest model has more head, shoulder and knee room. Various trim lines are offered -- the S SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium. The R-Line and SEL trims have leatherette interior, while the SEL Premium have leather seats.
Meanwhile, the SEL and SEL Premium offer various colored interior lighting that you can choose from: white, red, orange, mustard, yellow, turquoise, light blue, blue, purple and pink. All trim levels have Car-Net Security and Service, as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. The SEL trim also features the “Volkswagen Digital Cockpit”, a fully digitized driver information display.
The 2019 Jetta also comes with a 1.4-L turbocharged gasoline engine that provides 147 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. In addition, it also comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, as well as an 8-speed automatic transmission. Safety features include Forward Collision Warning; Autonomous Emergency Braking; Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control; Active Lane Keep System; and High Beam Control.
