Matthews Auto Group prides itself on being a central part of the communities it services.

“We support over 100 organizations and try to cover as much ground as can,” President Rob Matthews told Mega Dealer News of the company’s approach to philanthropy. “We like to try to hit as many as possible, (causes like) youth sports and partnerships with hospitals.”

A look at the Vestal, New York-headquartered dealership’s website offers proof that the giving hardly stops there. The American Cancer Society, A Room to Heal, BC Humane Society, Mothers & Babies Perinatal, Broome County Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish and several area sports teams and leagues are just some of the causes Matthews Auto has contributed to.

“We like when you’re giving to a person instead of an organization,” Matthews said. “We think you can give more when you do it that way.”

Almost from the moment the dealership stepped foot into the community more than four decades ago, Matthews Auto Group has embraced doing things that way.

Other regular community events include “Pictures with Santa” for kids and pets held every holiday season and the Customer Appreciation Night held every summer. Everyone gathers at the company’s Big Field to watch a family film, where all proceeds from the evening are dedicated to a charity of choice.

And then there are the annual car shows the dealership regularly hosts throughout the year -- including a Mustang Rally, American Muscle Cruise and VW Cruise -- where live music, food vendors, prizes, raffles and trophies are all a part of the car extravaganza.

Again, all the proceeds from the event are donated to charity. Altogether, Matthews Auto has about 300 employees and six dealerships in three different markets.

“We strive to make a difference and demonstrate our commitment to helping the community,” the company posts on its website.
