As spring approaches, more drivers will find themselves using car washes. It is important to find out how to disable some of your car’s advanced features for a good car wash experience.

First of all, be sure you know how to put your car in neutral before you get to the car wash. Although it is straightforward for most cars, some newer models may vary.

Second, disable your pre-collision system. The system’s sensors and forward-facing camera may misinterpret the car wash brushes or the vehicle ahead of you as a threat.

Finally, disable your automatic windshield wipers. This rain-sensing feature is meant to detect whether it is raining and the amount of rain. In response it sets the wipers to the appropriate setting. However, if you forget to turn this feature off before going into the car wash, you may end up with either broken windshield wipers or a burn wiper motor.

Be sure to re-enable safety features once you leave the car wash. The technology team at West Herr Automotive Group is also able to give you information on your vehicle's advanced features and when it is best to use them.
