Fremont Motors site discusses different engine oil types

The Fremont Motors website is offering tips and facts about the different types of engine oil and why oil is important for a vehicle.

Engine oil keeps the moving parts of the engine lubricated to help prevent friction and wear, the posting said.

Not all engine oils are the same, and the different types include synthetic, semi-synthetic and conventional engine oil.

Synthetic is a thin oil designed for newer vehicles. This oil protects a vehicle even in extreme circumstances and lasts longer than other types of engine oil, the posting said.

Semi-synthetic oil is a mix of mineral oil and synthetic oil and costs a bit less than completely synthetic oil. It offers some of the same benefits as synthetic oil and doesn't break down as fast as regular engine oil, the posting said.

Conventional engine oil will work in many vehicles but does not last as long as oils that are at least partially synthetic, the posting said. It needs to be replaced more often.

Besides the synthetic or non-synthetic oils, oil sold in stores comes in different viscosities or thicknesses. To determine which oil is right for your vehicle, check the owner's manual, or look at the engine oil cap. The cap or a label near it should state the oil type recommended for your vehicle, the posting said.
