Honda, Acura trucks drive to sales record for June

Honda and Acura truck sales combined for new sales records for June, a release from American Honda Motor Company said.

June saw sales of 139,793 Honda and Acura vehicles, amounting to an increase of .8 percent over the same time last year. Truck sales were up 1.9 percent over last year, with 70,067 sold in June.

Over all, Honda's sales nearly matched the strong sales of June 2016, with Civic and Accord as the most popular models. The HR-V had its best June and the Ridgeline experienced a sales gain even though there were issues with inventory. HR-V sales amounted to 8,872 in June, an increase of 35.1 percent. Civic sales hit 30,909 cars and Accord saw sales of almost the same amount.

"Against a sea of competitors clinging to market share via heavy incentives and fleet sales, Honda's success is driven by retail customers attracted to a cadence of strong new products," Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda division, said in the release. "Although the market is catching its breath, we're injecting new energy with models like the incredible new Civic Type R and we're not done yet in 2017, with a new Accord on the way."
