Suburban Collection works with local Michigan food bank: 'This is helping people right in our backyard'

The Suburban Collection is helping Southeast Michigan alleviate food insecurity through its partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank.

Along with Farmington Hills Suburban Collection dealerships, Troy-based dealerships are participating in the second annual Drive Away Hunger campaign to raise funds for 375,000 meals by the end of November.

“We saw people being out of work and not even having money for food, and when we saw how impactful collecting food or raising money for food could (be), we all got behind it,” Ron MacEachern, Suburban Collection Manager, told C&G Newspapers.  “We even got some secret donors last year who matched our donations. People really stepped up during these crazy times. Sometimes you don’t know where your money is going or what you’re actually accomplishing, but this is helping people right in our backyard. We have seen how much this is helping people.”

The campaign is being held virtually and will end on Giving Tuesday, which is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Suburban Collection aims to raise funds for the meals by Nov. 30, according to a Sept. 17 Tweet. Some dealerships are also hosting events to help raise funds.

To donate, people can go to the Gleaners website to look at food items given to the community monthly and can track “how big of an impact their donation makes,” according to C&G Newspapers.
