IDTechEx study predicts increase in popularity for 48V vehicles

This August, IDTechEx has released a report, "48V Mild Hybrid and 48V Full Hybrid Vehicles 2020-2030," which reveals the fast emergence of those hybrid models.

The research mentions that by 2020 the 48V inventory will be seen from Ferrari to Volkswagen Golf as well as family cars in China. Additionally, the 48V full hybrid is projected to outdo traditional hybrid electric vehicles on price by a significant margin. According to the report, it will attain "70% of an engine-dominant high-voltage hybrid's benefits at 30% of the powertrain cost."

The first substantial sales will be seen by 2023 as continuous enhancements are made, which can be more costly and time-consuming than the 48V mild hybrid fix. It is expected to provide more comfort and better performance features such as silent takeoffs and active cruising at speed and parking all with engine off.
