Toyota models with Toshiba's Visconti 4 image recognition processor earn top scores in 2018 JNCAP

Toyota models equipped with Toshiba's Visconti 4 image recognition processor earned top scores in the 2018 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP).

The Toyota Alphard/Vellfire was granted the Grand Prix Award for preventive safety performance, and the Toyota Crown bagged the Grand Prix Award in collision safety performance. The Crown, Corolla Sport, and Camry received the highest rank of five stars in the 2018 JNCAP collision safety performance assessment.

The Visconti series of image processor LSIs which are capable of detecting pedestrians in the evening and in low light environments are supplied by Toshiba to Toyota vehicles as a key component of DENSO Corporation’s Front-Camera-Based-Active-Safety System. This has become a factor for Toyota to obtain high scores in the collision avoidance braking for pedestrians assessment.

The Japan New Car Assessment Program evaluates vehicle safety covering preventive safety performance, collision safety performance, and pedestrian protection performance and is conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victims' Aid.
