Hawaii Business Magazine has named Servco Pacific Inc.'s Mark Fukunaga its CEO of the Year.

The Honolulu-based magazine featured Fukunaga in its December issue, where he recalls how he and his cousin, Eric Fukunaga, started with Servco, which operates new and pre-owned vehicle dealerships in Hawaii and Australia.

“When we took over in 1994, the company had $340 million in revenues,” Mark Fukunaga said. “Around 2012, we hit $1 billion in revenues, which was a big deal for us. It took us more than 90 years to hit $1 billion, and then less than 10 more years to hit $2 billion.”

Under Fukunaga’s wings, Servco Pacific Inc. has flourished as Hawaii’s largest privately owned company and has given employment opportunities to more than 2,000 people. The company also has been among Hawaii’s Best Places to Work for the past 14 years.

Fukunaga believes in moving the organization forward through positive change, acknowledging digital transformation, balancing the family business with respect, and hearing the voices of his board are a few of the reasons why he was chosen CEO of the year.

“Every business has to reinvent itself. No business stays the same,” Fukunaga said.
