Sonic Automotive risk management director: 'We definitely chose the right insurance provider in Zurich'

Although Sonic Automotive was already pleased with the way Zurich had handled its first minor hail damage claim, an even bigger test of the insurance company’s service lay on the horizon.

Just months after switching to Zurich, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma carved swaths of destruction across Houston in 2017, damaging several of Sonic’s 19 dealerships, according to a testimonial on Zurich’s website.

But Tim Hallice, Sonic Automotive’s director of risk management, said they weren’t disappointed in Zurich, despite the hurricane’s threat.

“Zurich was prepared to respond to our claims needs before the storm even hit Houston,” Hallice said in a release.

Even though Hallice said the dealership paid attention to forecasts and moved many cars out of harm’s way, a storm-driven 9-foot wall of water damaged several buildings and significant portions of its inventory.

Zurich helped Sonic Automotive recover from the damage – crucial since a car dealer must be ready to meet residents’ replacement vehicle demands. They also were able to troubleshoot Sonic’s disaster planning, keeping them from losing no more than two vehicles when Irma hit after Harvey.

“We definitely chose the right insurance provider in Zurich,” Hallice said in a release. “No one could have done better.”
