Wyoming State Law § 31-5-962 states that "No person may operate an enclosed motor vehicle that is registered or required to be registered in this state on any public highway, road or street that has a sunscreen device on the windshield, the front side wings and side windows adjacent to the right and left of the driver and windows adjacent to the rear of the driver that do not meet the requirements of this section."

According to the Wyoming Statute, a sunscreening device is described as a “film material or device that is designed to be used in conjunction with motor vehicle safety glazing materials for reducing the effects of the sun”.

Tinting the Windshield According to the Statute

“(c) A sunscreening device when used in conjunction with the windshield shall be a nonreflective type and may not be red, yellow or amber in color. A sunscreening device may be used only along the top of the windshield and may not extend downward beyond the AS-1 line or more than five (5) inches from the top of the windshield, whichever is closer to the top of the windshield.”

The Statute on Tinting Front Side Windows

“(d) A sunscreening device, when used in conjunction with the safety glazing materials of the side wings or side windows, or both, located at the immediate right and left of the driver, shall be a nonreflective type and have total light transmission through both the sunscreening device and glazing of not less than twenty-eight percent (28%).”

Rear Sides and Back Window Tinting

“(e) A sunscreening device, when used in conjunction with the safety glazing materials of the side windows behind the driver and the rearmost window, shall be a nonreflective type and have total light transmission through both the sunscreening device and glazing of not less than twenty-eight percent (28%).”

There are a number of reasons why Wyoming vehicle owners can benefit from tinting their windows. One reason is that two of the 20 sunniest cities in the U.S. are in Wyoming, according to MSN.

Also, Current Results, Weather and Science Facts show that Wyoming cities get about 63 percent to 68 percent sunshine. This number measures the percentage of time between sunrise and sunset that sunshine reaches the ground.

Apart from getting a protection from the sun’s harmful rays, a tinted window makes driving easy as it minimizes the glare of the sun.

For whatever reason Wyoming vehicle owners would want to have their windows tinted, one should refer to the Wyoming Statutes on motor vehicles/regulation of traffic on highways-sunscreening devices and its exceptions to ensure compliance.
