The last time Volkswagen launched a family-sized vehicle that could seat more than five passengers was about 40 years ago. Remember the Volkswagen Bus?

Now, for the first time since then, the German automaker has introduced two family-sized vehicles, the 2018 Tiguan and the 2018 Atlas (Atlas-t).

The Tiguan and Atlas can seat up to seven passengers and they both come with 4-Motion, which is Volkswagen’s All Wheel Drive system.

The Tiguan has the option to set up the third-row seating on all-wheel drive models. For the Atlas, the third-row seating is standard.

The Tiguan is smaller and lighter, while the Atlas is heavier, wider, marginally higher and 13 inches longer. Also, because of its nimbleness the Tiguan has better fuel economy than the Atlas. As for the technology available, both feature Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and smartphone integration.

If you want more space, then the Atlas might be for you. But if you want to drive around town easily and move through narrow spaces without difficulty, then the Tiguan might be your choice.
