At some point, you may have to change a tire. To do so, you will need to know whether your car has either a full-size spare tire or a compact temporary tire.

A compact temporary tire, also known as a doughnut tire, can travel for a maximum of 50 miles. Using it beyond this point is not recommended and could endanger your safety.

A full-size spare tire is a regular tire. Since it is the same size as your other tires, there is no maximum travel limit. You do not have to get your damaged tire replaced quite as quickly as you would with a compact temporary tire.
