For resourceful vehicle owners who don’t mind some elbow grease when it comes to upkeep, everyday household items can prove highly effective at keeping your car’s headlights clean, whether your headlamps are plastic or glass.

One solution is sitting right on your bathroom vanity: toothpaste! For plastic headlight covers, squeeze a bit onto a warm damp cloth to scrub dirt and grime off; repeat until satisfied, and rinse with a second clean, damp cloth, advises Minnesota’s Walser Automotive Group.

For glass headlights, Walser recommends using a progressive series of sandpaper sheets, beginning with the coarsest grit size and working up to the finest step by step. Once your headlight lenses are completely free of debris, polish them with glass cleaner and a soft cloth.

Whether you seek shortcuts on a shoestring or simply enjoy the simplicity of handy household solutions, you can keep your safety beams radiant and in tip-top shape with these DIY tips.

“If you have questions about your vehicle’s headlights, don’t hesitate to speak with a knowledgeable member of our service team,” Walser said. “We’re here at Walser Automotive Group to help you with all aspects of maintenance.”

Walser Automotive Group is a new and used car dealer serving Minneapolis and St. Paul, Bloomington, Maplewood, & Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. It is headquartered in South Edina.
