The 2018 Nissan Altima has some high-tech safety features included on all trim levels, even the most basic, according to DARCARS Automotive Group.

The forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking systems are standard. These work by calculating the distance and velocity between the Altima and vehicle in front of it to determine when an accident seems imminent. Alerts will show or sound. Then, the Altima suggests braking, if that is the best way to prevent collision. If the driver doesn't respond, the vehicle will automatically apply pressure to the brakes to slow things down.

This features comes in handy, especially for drivers with family members riding in the car. Minor distractions can cause delays in response time, so extra assistance from the Altima could save lives.

Other new safety features are available as standard or optional, depending on trim level, such as rear cross-traffic alerts, a blind-sport warning system and intelligent cruise control that slows down as needed, then speeds back up to cruising level when the path is clear.

Feel free to visit DARCARS in College Park, Maryland to take a new Altima for a test drive and to learn more about the enhanced safety features.
