The new 2018 Ford F-150 has the best gas mileage in its class, according to a Fremont Motors writeup.

The newest F-150 with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine gets 22 miles per gallon combined highway and city driving, or 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on highways. The F-150 with a 3.5-liter turbo engine gets 19 mpg combined highway and city driving.

One reason for the better mileage is an auto start/stop feature, standard on F-150s. This turns the engine off while the truck is stopped, then starts it back up again. A new 10-speed automatic transmission also helps boost fuel economy.

By comparison, the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5.3-liter engine gets 18 mpg combined driving. The 2018 RAM 1500 with a 5.7-liter engine gets an estimated 17 mpg combined, while the Toyota Tundra 5.7-liter gets 14 mpg combined.

The 5.0-liter V8 version of the 2018 F-150 has a payload capacity of nearly 3,300 pounds.
