Jones Junction offers tips to prepare a vehicle for a storm

In the wake of recent natural disasters, Jones Junction offered tips on its blog for preparing a vehicle for a hurricane or major storm.

Jones Junction said to check the oil, all fluids, wipers and tires well ahead of the storm to make sure anything that needs refilling or replacement can be taken care of before it becomes an urgent issue.

Be sure to fill the vehicle's gas tank well ahead of a storm, the posting said. Power outages can render gas pumps useless, so gas may be hard to find during or after a severe storm.

If leaving your car parked when the storm is expected to hit, park in an above-ground garage if possible. Park on the highest ground possible otherwise, and never in an area prone to flooding. Also park the vehicle away from trees to help prevent damage. Remove all valuables from the car, close the windows and lock the vehicle, the posting said.

Document the condition of the car by taking pictures and noting existing scratches, dents or dings. This could helpful later when proving storm damage to an insurer, the posting said.
