Jones Junction discusses the pros and cons of hybrids

The Jones Junction blog recently discussed some of the pros and cons of owning a hybrid vehicle.

The Toyota Prius model, one of the best-known hybrids, is 20 years old. Lots of other car companies have jumped in on hybrid production since 1997.

The posting cited the the main advantages of owning a hybrid, which include the fact that hybrids use a combination of gas and electricity, emitting less pollution than gas-only vehicles. Having a hybrid could also mean an exemption from emissions testing. Some states also offer tax benefits for hybrid vehicle owners.

Hybrids also are extremely quiet and are great for city driving. They also offer a higher resale value than similar non-hybrid vehicles because hybrids are in demand.

The drawbacks of hybrids are that they tend to be a little smaller in size, although many larger models are starting to be made. Hybrids also have smaller batteries, so accidentally leaving an interior light on overnight could drain the battery. They are also a bit more expensive in general than non-hybrid vehicles..
