Tips to keep SUVs road ready

Jones Junctions recently offered some tips for SUV owners to help keep their vehicles in peak condition.

A posting on the Jones Junction website said owners should choose an auto repair shop familiar with your SUV make and model when service is necessary.

SUV owners should stick to the factory-recommended maintenance schedule; skipping important care such as oil changes or tire rotation can lead to more costly maintenance down the road, the posting said.

Check the SUV's fluids regularly – the levels of the oil, coolant and windshield washer fluid.

Check the tire pressure frequently as low pressure affects gas mileage. Keeping tires filled to the recommended pressure ensures maximum fuel efficiency.

Drivers should pay attention to road conditions. Even though an SUV can handle the roads well, icy, slippery roads can still cause trouble.

Be courteous to other drivers. SUVs take up more space than some other vehicles on the road, so pay attention to ensure you're staying within your lane. Also be on the lookout to ensure you can see other vehicles nearby before changing lanes.

Read the SUV owner's manual to check up on recommendations for general care of your vehicle.
