Ford releases update to 2016 vehicles for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay

Ford has released an update for 2016 vehicles that allows the cars to connect with iPhone 5 and higher and Android Lollipop and higher phones for full compatibility with "phone projection" systems, a press release on the West Herr New York website said.

To receive the update for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, make a service appointment at your local Ford dealership. An appointment is required since the work can take more than one hour. The update is free. To update it yourself, connect your car to your home's WiFi service. Park close enough to the home to get a good signal. The option to connect to home WiFi is available in the "settings" menu in your Ford. Doing this allows your far to check for updates on its own, even overnight while you sleep, the release said.  

You can also download the update from the Ford Owner website onto a flash drive to install it via your car's USB port.

Those using iPhones must upgrade the USB ports in the vehicle at the dealership to make the car compatible. This service is not free, the release said.
