Kia plant in Georgia hits the 1 million mark in Sorento production

As the  one millionth Kia Sorento CUV rolled off the assembly line May 1 at the Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG) facility in West Point, KMMG marked the occasion with a celebration, a press release on the Ancira Kia website said.

KMMG produced its first Kia Sorento in mid-November 2009. By 2011, the facility also produced the Kia Optima, a midsize sedan. Between the workers at the site and local suppliers required for production, KMMG has created more than 15,000 jobs for residents of the West Point region. So far, KMMG has produced nearly 2.4 million vehicles, the release said.

“The Sorento is a special product to our KMMG team as it was the first vehicle assembled at our Georgia plant,” KMMG CEO Harrison Shin said in the release. “Our team is committed to building the best vehicles in the world right here in West Point, Georgia, and we dedicate ourselves to world-class quality each day. I want to congratulate our team on another remarkable milestone.”
