West Herr offers spring car-care tips

Now that spring is here, New York-based West Herr Automotive Group is offering tips to help prepare cars for the seasonal weather change.

Remove salt residue that is on the car; invest in a detailed car wash that rinses the undercarriage because salt can cause rust, West Herr said on its website.

Check the suspension and alignment of the vehicle because potholes can mess up the alignment. If your steering wheel vibrates or if the car pulls to one side, it may need an adjustment. Getting an alignment is a worthwhile investment.

Change the oil after winter. Oil should be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Also check other fluids such as windshield washer fluid, and the fluids for the brakes and cooling system.

Tire pressure changes with the temperature, so be sure to check the pressure. Also rotate the tires at least every 5,000 miles so they wear evenly.

Have the brakes and rotors checked, as brakes are one of the most important features of your vehicle. West Herr's technicians can check the pads and rotors to ensure they're in good working condition. Having the brakes checked can also help ensure that any potential problems are noticed before they become a much greater, dangerous problem.
