6 Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships on GM's green list

Six Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships were recently recognized by General Motors and named certified Green Dealers for 2017.

The dealerships recognized are Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Duluth in Georgia; Hendrick Chevrolet Cary in North Carolina; Hendrick Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac Southpoint in Durham, North Carolina; Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, North Carolina; Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Darrell Waltrip Buick GMC in Franklin, Tennessee, a Hendrick Automotive Group release said.

General Motors launched its Green Dealer program three years ago. To achieve the designation, a dealership must show sustainable practices such as renewable energy use and water conservation efforts, the release said.

Examples of the initiatives include use of motion-sensing or energy-efficient lighting, reflective white roofing, ceiling fans to help diffuse heat, low-flow water fixtures, and reduction of paper use and waste, the release said. Dealerships undergo a performance assessment covering 60 eco-friendly business practices and must show continuous improvement to reach green certification.

“GM has long been committed to being a leader in environmental stewardship, and we’re proud that our dealers share this commitment to serve and improve the communities where we work and live,” Kurt McNeil, GM vice president of U.S. sales operations, said in the release.
