Mercedes-Benz pickup trucks just might be coming to the United States – The upcoming X-Class midsize pickup was not originally supposed to roll out here, but Volker Mornhinweg of the Mercedes Van Division said the company is reconsidering that decision.

This is because in the past year, the midsize truck market has had a bit of a comeback, General Motors is launching a midsize truck and other developments are being monitored closely. What’s more, Mercedes is considering building the pickup trucks in the United States, a blog posted on the website of New York-based West Herr Automotive Group said. This would allow Mercedes-Benz to avoid paying the crushing 25 percent imported trucks border tax on the new vehicles.

Mercedes has said that those outside of the United States, in Europe, Australia, South Africa and South America, will also be able to get behind the wheel of the X-Class midsize pickup when the trucks are produced, the posting said.

So far, only the concept photos of the much anticipated Mercedes-Benz vehicle have been released. What is known is that, according to reports, the new midsize pickup trucks will be able to haul a payload of more than 2,400 pounds and two more than 7,700 pounds, the posting said.
